Hoarding Treasure: Is Gold Haram?

Hoarding Gold can cause many problems
Many people criticizing that saving gold is haram because it is kind of hoarding treasure. Hoarding treasure is haram because it makes no outstanding property to drive the economy, thus impoverish some people. Islam truly prohibits the accumulation of wealth in this way, no doubt. So my friend. Are you saving gold? Is gold haram?

Zakat!

The gold is not haram as long as you do most importantly Zakat. You also recommended to do Infaq, Shadaqah, and also Wakaf. Islam set this up because there will be parts of our property that can cause trouble in case we didn't use it: trouble either to us or to our nation.

With this mecanism, the economy can back into balance. There is always a gap between the poor and the rich, but the distance could be thin by this way.

At the time of Umar bin Khattab and Umar bin Abdul Aziz, the lowest economic level is out eroded, making it difficult to channel charity. It happens not because there is no Muzakki, but because Mustahik doesn't exist. Middle economic levels still exist, but they are not the objects of charity recipients an state guarantees. So, in the society at that time, the bottom levels of the pyramid is missing. The largest number is in the middle.

The Fact

If all people in this world paid for Zakat, Zakat can be accumulated at least USD 6,000 trillion per year, according to Ust. Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik. The fact is that, zakat accumulated 1.5% only.

This figure is clearly not capable of being the solution to poverty and for improving the lives of over half the population of this world who are under the poverty line.

Conclussion

The awareness of Zakat, Infaq, and Shadaqah within the society is still very low (although continues to increase each time). Stating that having gold is haram because it is kind of hoarding treasure is not true. It is depend ultimately on how we maintain the gold. Have we paid the Zakat? Infaq? and also Shadaqah?
